Notes for Thomas J. Luther:

Thomas J. Luther was just 3 years old when his family moved from Southampton County, Virginia to Autauga County, Alabama.Thomas Jefferson Luther came to Wheeling, Louisiana before 1860 and homesteaded 39 acres. It is believed that he died sometime around 1864, his grave site is not currently known tho it is suspected to be in an Afro-American cemetary.

Thomas J. Luther and Mary Ann were both alive for the 1860 census in La.[James Madison Luther.FTW]

Thomas Jefferson Luther and his wife, Mary, along with their children are listed in the Coosa County, Al 1850 Census. Thomas came to Winn parish around 1858 and homesteaded 39 acres in the Wheeling area on July 1, 1861. He is believed to have come to Louisiana with his brother. A Thomas D. Luther homesteaded 159 acres in this area on Oct. 5, 1860. Thomas D. might be Thomas J.'s brother or even his father.

Also living in Coosa County, AL in 1850 was Bland Luther. I include this name because it is possible that Bland was Thomas J.s brother or father. Bland was born in 1796, also in Va. His wife was named Mary (from GA) born in 1814. Their children were: Giles (b. 1834), Elizabeth (1835), Martha (1837), Minerva (1838), Jane (1839), Nancy (1842), John (1844), Susan (1847) Vinney (1846). A Giles

Venson Luther in Cherokee County, NC may have information on Bland Luther but I have been unable to contact him as of now.

Shirley Luther

(We now know that this Bland Luther was actually Obland Luter, Thomas J.ís uncle.

General Notes:

We do not know Mary Ann's maiden name. All we know about her is that she could not read or write her name. She was born in North Carolina in 1815. Thomas J's brother, William, also married a woman from North Carolina who was born in 1817. There is a possibilty these two women were sisters but nothing has been proven.[James Madison Luther.FTW]
