NOTE: Mary is a confirmed daughter of Hardy Lewter per a Chatham County NC deed dated

04/05/1841 in which Hardy transfers 75 acres of his plantation adjacent to son Martin Lewter, to

daughters Barbary and Mary Lewter with the understanding that they will take care of him and provide a home for his daughter Crissy. Mary is listed in the 1850 Chatham Co NC census on page 478b in the home of sister Barbary Lewter; the 1870 Chatham Co NC census page 188b

I Mary Lewter of the County of Chatham and State of N C of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament in manner following.


Item 1 I give to Rebeca Upchurch my tract of Land which I now live on an after her death to her Boddyla hears


Item 2 I give to Sary Lewter 1 wheel and cards 1 coffee pot

Item 3 1 chair pot I gave to Nancy Lewter

Item 4 I give to Jain Lewtor Whit one bed and sheat

Item 5 I give my new shall to Martha Kelly

Item 6 I gave to Fatina and Asper Lewterone hog apecs

Item 7 I gave Sary and Nancy and Emaline Lewtor one hog apecs

Item 8 I gave all of my waring apparrels and bed cloths to Fatima and Asperan and Nancy and Sary and Emaline Luter and Martha Kelly and Rebier Upchurch

Item 9 All of property which I have not willed away  I wish it to bee sold and divided among those above named.

Item 10 I wish my executor to get me a good coffin worth $25.00 Also pay all my just debts

Item 11 I wish a lane between my fence and Isham Upchurches

Item 12 I wish to leave G.A. upchurch as my executor to this my last will and testament whariunto I set my hand and seal the day and date above written in Presence of Bill Yates Mary Lewter
