Notes for Patsey Beavers

1. Her death certificate

When William married Patsey when he was 78 years of age and Milly was the only child at home. In the Barbee family it is said that he needed someone to take care of him and maybe she needed someone to provide for her. PATSEY6 BEAVERS brought to the marriage a 2 year old son, WALTER JACKSON BEAVERS. (who later changed his name to WALTER JACKSON BARBEE).

Walter Jackson Beavers/Barbee was born Aug. 1886. Walter is listed in William and Patsey's home in the 1900 Chatham Co NC census as William's Stepson. Sadly, Patsey's marriage to WILLIAM A. BARBEE has historically been overshadowed by his long marriage to ELIZA HARWARD. There is no mention of

her in either of the notable Barbee books or in Mullins book. According to family members, William A Barbee was extremely difficult to live with in his old age.

WALTER JACKSON BEAVERS - BARBEE was born in 1886 in Chatham County NC. He was about 2 years old when Patsey married WILLIAM A BARBEE. WALTER J BEAVERS changed his surname to BARBEE by the time he appears in the 1910 census.

The family story goes that Wm adopted her son. They had no children, Wm was 70 years old at the time of their marriage. Cannot find adoption papers or a will or even a probate of his estate. Patsy died in 1914 and to date I have no date of death for Walter, but 1930 he was living in Virginia.
