Notes for Thomas James Scott:

There are two Thomas J. Scott's who are easily confused: Some people believe this Thomas J. Scott to be son of David Rice Scott. Census records seem to imply that this Thomas J. Scott was son of Cyrus C. Scott - see notes by Imogene McDonald below:

One Thomas J. age 39, farmer, born Indiana, Melinda W. 38, James M. 1 8, Mary J. 16, Joseph H. 14, Samuel 10, Thomas J. 8, and Addison M 2, were listed in the 1860 census of Limestone County, AL living next door to William H. Scott age 41, born KY, and one house away from Cyrus C . age 41,and Elizabeth B. Scott age 40. Cyrus had John R. Scott, 31, physician, in his household. I believe

Thomas J. William H. and John R. all to be sons of Cyrus.

Thomas J. Scott was the son of Cyrus C. and brother of William H. He also joined Company E, 50th Alabama Infantry. Thomas was wounded in the Chickamuga Campaign. He was on a detail away from his company in the Battle of Atlanta and was struck on the arm by a cannon shell, shattering the bones of his left arm. He was unable to use his arm for the remainder of his life. This information was provided by R. DeWayne Scott, sources Alabama Archives and the National Archives. Information taken from the Book "Confederate Soldiers of Limestone County, AL, Lest We Forget" by Jerrye Todd Austin, page 129.]

Tom's brother William H. Scott born 1819 in KY, died 28 Sep 1864 and was buried in Macon, GA. William H. moved to Limestone County, Alabama with about 40 or 50 other family members in the early 1840's. He joined Company E, 50th Alabama Infantry along with his brother and his oldest son.

William Was killed in action or died from wounds. His father was Cyrus S. Scott. his information was provided by R. DeWayne Scott, sources Alabama Archives and the National Archives.
